Suicide Prevention Week

First of all, I have to address how much I am failing to keep up with blogging. I have had numerous people ask me when I will next be posting and I posted approximately a week ago telling you guys i'd have a haul coming. However, to be quite honest I have just been to damn lazy.

On the other hand, I really think what I am going to talk about today is of massive importance.

This week (8th-14th September 2014) is National Suicide Prevention week. You reading this may or may not have this week close to your heart but I think either way it is vital to understand how suicide affects people all over the world every single day. Whether this be the person who is having the thoughts, or their friends and family dealing with the consequences and heartache.

What is Suicide?
To commit suicide is the act of intentionally ending your own life.

Recently, a very famous actor, Robin Williams devastatingly took his own life. This was a huge shock to a lot of people. This particular tragedy showed a lot of people how invisible mental illness can be. This comedy gold actor, who made his audience laugh until we cried, took his own life. This shows that even when a person appears happy on the outside, they can have demons inside that override this front they constantly put up. Also, it emphasises that money does not, and will not ever buy happiness.

Mental illness is so easily hidden and that's what can make it so scary. I can't stress enough how important it is to speak out if you are feeling at all down or depressed.

Other than mental illness, there are a lot of other reasons why someone may feel they can no longer live.
  • Financial worries
  • Loneliness
  • Family problems
  • Sexual orientation
  • Bullying
The list is endless.

If you are wanting to help a friend or family member that has opened up to you, remember to not judge them and always let them know that you're there for them. Being there for someone that is experiencing these thoughts could make 100% difference to their life.

The main purpose of this blog post is to Raise Awareness and to let everyone know that suicide is NEVER the answer.

If you or anyone you know is suffering from suicidal thoughts, please get help.
